What Not to Do After An IPL

IPL Photofacial Addison, ILLooking in the mirror at your naked, make-up free skin can make you feel like you’re stepping into a horror movie— not only are fine lines and wrinkles more prevalent but so are sun damage and redness. As one of the best ways to even out your skin tone, intense pulse laser (IPL) therapy is a safe, fast, and efficient way to help restore your skin. Just like with any procedure from Allure Skin and Laser, it’s important that you know what to do and what not to do after your IPL. This article will discuss a few of the things that you should avoid after you get an IPL. Read on to learn more.

Stay Moisturized

As your skin is recovering from an IPL, it will start to dry out a little and peel. To help keep your skin smooth and comfortable, apply a thick moisturizing cream across your skin both morning and night.

Avoid the Sun

One of the worst things that you can do for your skin after having an IPL is exposed it to the sun. Your skin is going to be extremely sensitive directly following your treatment which means that if you spend too much time out in the sun, you are more likely to get a bad sunburn. For at least a week following your IPL, try to cover up when going outside by wearing a large brimmed hat.

Be Gentle

You can get back to your original skin care routine right after you can an IPL, however, make sure that you are gentle. For instance, if you usually wash your face with a Clarisonic or washcloth, consider using your fingers instead. Additionally, when applying makeup make sure that you only use a little bit of pressure to spread it across your skin.

Keep your skin moisturized, avoid the sun, and try to be as gentle as possible when touching your skin after having an IPL. To learn more about how you can care for your skin or to schedule an appointment with one of our doctors, contact Allure Skin and Laser today!
